In their dance production SHE LEGEND, the choreographer duo Rykena/Jüngst goes in search of the queer potentials of the comic world, its superheroes and their choreographic translations to the stage. Inspired by the visual power, the abstract and bizarre forms of expression of comics, Lisa Rykena and Carolin Jüngst transform themselves into futuristic, cyborg-like shape-shifters and become illustrations of their own pathos. With their bodies they draw grotesque comic figures, dilettantish anti-heroes, megalomaniac characters and complicit heroines. With exaggerated gestures and expressive facial expressions, they move through imaginary landscapes of myths, legends and apocalyptic backdrops. They overwrite heroic narratives, invent super powers and sing of their own metamorphoses. They question their own heroism and embody non-conformist figures in the fight against the dominant narratives.
